Hello people,
now that it's out of the way lets get straight to it as usual. blah, blah... Too much confidance is bad... blah, blah... maybe take a hit every now and again. My whole point dont let your self confidance blind you. continue progressing and challenging your own beleifs. yepper that's our gang! on a side note instead of being an adult and getting a real job at an office working in a cubicle that will later lead to my jumping off a roof... What advice would you give to me about going to some monk like monestary type thing and just living there and working for them? i'd rather work for monks doing something useful than file forms on a computer all day. |

I have considered the very same thing on numerous occasions, I like the famous Tibetan Monks but only for their famous displays of ability, I've never really did any in depth research on them.
I just couldn't see myself sitting around all day when there is so much more I could be doing/seeing/experiencing. I think I'll save up about 15-20k and go to some third world country like Korea or Haiti where it would last me forever and get a nice house in the middle of nowhere, where I could spend my days doing whatever I felt like doing(hiking, reading, etc), without interruption or a bunch of taxes and/or silly rules to follow. Though most of the time I would be studying or working out or something anyways, I would not be restricted to someone else's schedule and/or rules. I would not be burdened by having to make so much money just to continue living. It would be ideal.

Hm. I would probably check myself into a mental hospital instead. At least there you get a toilet, a bed, meds and recreation to pass the time. You might meet some interesting people who did the same and of course the ones that... are really crazy. If you check yourself in then you can check yourself out whenever you want, pending they dont think you are a harm to others. Afterward you wouldnt have to work to live menially, you could draw a crazy check and use food stamps (further plunging our economy down the shitter but w/e it works lol).
I'm seriously thinking about getting evaluated myself. If I lose my current job I'm NOT getting another one. Nope.

well considering i beleive in magic i dont think they would let me leave. and i'm too stubborn to say i dont if i were asked by a therapist.
I would love to lounge in a place where people take care of me all day... but i've also always been the independant type so i dont think i could handle being in a hospital for too long. I know what you mean though with the ideal life only if i were to do that i'd get a loan from a bank and run off, lol. i've never really studied monk cultures at all. I just can't bring myself to do work that is so pointless. i'm fine with working but i need that work to be for something greater than some corporation it has to actually be for someones life to be better. I'd rather just write a book or try teaching some philosophy but i dont know all that much when compared to all the others out there and i wouldn't want to become one of those guys who are like "only i know the one true way" or whatever. |

:/ Well, you could try the peace corps or something. Its a good way to get away from urban ritual, see other countries, help people in need etc. etc. Not generally my cup of tea, but then again Im the anti-social loner type lol.

Here's a place where you could just live as a monk. Sitting around doing what ever you want. Well, so long as it's consructive. It's not like you can sit around smokeing fat cigars and shooting wild birds. o.o It's a place I wouldn't mind visiting. http://www.ishwara.com/mmc.htm#mmcnz
The information for the resort is at the bottom of the page. You could live there if you wanted, if you got a NZ Visa.

Lol! Hey, there's nothing wrong with weed whacking your way to enlightenment :P We all find our own way. Plus, that asian guy was pretty damned proud of his weed whacking ability.
